Employing the Power of Art
I invite you to peruse my latest project website set up to offer whole bodies of work to museums, institutions, and universities as the heart of programs on climate, the human condition, war and peace.
I believe art is a powerful tool, which has been a bedrock of my artmaking throughout my career. The goal behind this latest site is to seek participation in projects that deal with the complex issues facing us today and that go far beyond art exhibitions. As I have done in the past, I am proposing complete bodies of work as installations to confront the dire political situation we are in as a nation and a society.
The Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Project is again relevant as we face the threat of another nuclear arms race.
The Holocaust Series, which clearly projects the outcomes from the proliferation of today’s planned detention camps.
The Ikebana Series, which can frame the environmental movement by its appealing presentations of the beauty of nature juxtaposed with the means of its imminent destruction.
The Angels, providing a transcendence of universal suffering.
The Times: Kimono Series, utilizing newspaper photos of humanitarian and environmental crises.
Throughout history, art has played a vital role in engaging people in action and conversation and social movements and activism. The No Kings Movement has shown us once again the value of in-person gatherings by bringing people together for a shared experience and to activate community.
Please get in touch if you are connected to any organization or institution working to engage the public in political and social issues, especially through art and creative voices.
